Dar es Salaam. A local tourism firm and an Israel-based travel firm have signed an air aviation agreement which provides for the kick-starting direct flights between Kilimanjaro and Tel Aviv.

The deal between Imagine (T) Tourism Bureau Ltd and Menelik Group of Israel will see the first direct flight between the two cities in the coming Easter.

Israel is regarded as Holy Land to some religious communities. Imagine (T) Tourism Bureau Ltd Managing Director Deo Boniface told The Citizen in Dar es Salaam on Thursday that the direct flight marks a significant milestone in trade and tourism relations between Tel Aviv and Dar es Salaam.

“There had never been a direct flight between the two countries…the new flight will help Tanzanians who wish to travel to the holy land for pilgrimage,” said Mr Boniface.

The cost between the two places ranges from $1999 (Sh3.2 million) and $2299 (Sh3.7 million). “These costs includes a return ticket, arrival and departure transfers with assistance, 8 night accommodation, dinner and breakfast,” said Mr Boniface.

Other benefits includes Daily Deluxe bus, daily English speaking guide, boat ride on Sea of Galilee, entrance fees according to the itinerary, porterage, Israel group visa and Israeli representative by the firm. Mr Boniface said the first flight from Kilimanjaro International Airport to Tel Aviv is expected in April 12 and the return is expected 20th of April 2014.

“This will also help to enhance local and international tourism in the country,” said Mr Boniface.

Among the places to be linked include Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Mt of Olives, Mt Zion, Jaffa, the Dead Sea and the Sea of Galilee. “Our customers however will have to cater for their lunches, drinks with meals, medical travel insurance and anything that is not mentioned in our list.”
