Tanzania set to overtake Brazil in sisal production

  • Last year, Tanzania produced 38,500 tonnes of sisal, making the country number two after Brazil which produces about 52,000 tonnes.

Tanzania may overtake Brazil in the production of sisal in the world if a new sisal cultivation project in Kishapu District, Shinyanga Region, is successfully implemented, according to the chief executive officer of the Katani Limited Mr Salum Shamte.

Last year, Tanzania produced 38,500 tonnes of sisal, making the country number two after Brazil which produces about 52,000 tonnes.
