Dar es Salaam. Watumishi Housing Company (WHC) has received a licence to operate as a contractor in its low-cost housing project.
The certificate awarded by Contractors Registration Board (CRB) yesterday is expected to enable the company to develop the housing scheme at a lower cost compared to outsourcing contractors.
While receiving the certificate, WHC chief operating officer Weja Lutabola said the project has Sh43 billion that will be used to construct 1,000 houses in the first phase which covers Dar es Salaam, Morogoro and Mwanza.
“The first project in Morogoro which targets low and middle income earners including teachers and health practitioners is in the final stages,” he said.
Other projects are expected to commence soon in Dodoma, Coast, Tanga, Mtwara, Arusha, Mwanza, Katavi and Lindi before moving on to other regions, he said.
The houses will be sold at between Sh33 million and Sh55 million. WHC is also making arrangements with commercial banks to facilitate their customers with mortgage in the scheme.
