Why Dar Serena Hotel appears more attractive

Arusha. Lobby and front area facilities at the Dar es Salaam Serena Hotel have a new look following recent refurbishment, it was announced here at the weekend.

Other areas covered by the improvements are the public areas, the food and beverage outlets and the gym and spa, said an executive of the Serena Hotels Group.

“We have completed improvements to the front of house areas”, said Mr Mahmud Janmohamed, the managing director of TPS Serena Hotels.

The group manages a total of 24 properties in East and Southern Africa, 11 of them in Tanzania and the rest in Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and Mozambique.

Speaking during a gala dinner at Golf Day competition at the Gymkhana Club here Mr Janmohamed the refurbishments was a boost to one of the city’s best hotels.

He could not disclose the cost of the civil works which, he hinted, could run into millions of shillings.

The Dar es Salaam Serena Hotel was taken over by the Nairobi-based Tourism Promotion Services some years back when it was known as Movenpick.

Prior to that, the facility constructed from 1993 and opened in October 1995, was trading under Sheraton and Royal Palm brands.

Mr Janhomamed added that other improvements would continue to be taken at the centrally-located hotel without disrupting hotel services.

The Serena Group had only four properties in the 1970s in Kenya but witnessed tremendous growth in the last 20 years to a collection of 24 hotels, luxury resorts and lodges.

Of the 24 properties/units located across the six countries (including Zanzibar), eleven are in Tanzania, 10 in Kenya, two each in Uganda and Rwanda and one unit in Mozambique.
