What you need to know:

HMC, the Free Pentecostal Church of Tanzania (FPTC)’s prestigious–run college, has traditionally been skewed towards media and leadership management training, offering certificates and diplomas.

Arusha. Habari Maalum College (HMC) is whetting appetite by venturing into business courses, a move suggesting a historic shift in the college’s training packages.

HMC, the Free Pentecostal Church of Tanzania (FPTC)’s prestigious–run college, has traditionally been skewed towards media and leadership management training, offering certificates and diplomas.

But now the institution plans to introduce Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and mass communication (BAMC), as the management seeks to diversify portfolios to cope with the global training trend and create a new cadre of Tanzanian scholars who will be creating jobs.

HMC Principal Jackson Kaluzi told The Citizen that they have submitted their proposal to the relevant authorities to allow them to commence the two courses next year.

“We have the best learning infrastructure and qualified human resources to teach the courses,” Mr Kaluzi explained.

HMC public relations and marketing officer Emmy Kimaro says that the two courses were imperative as the institution now wants to groom students to create jobs for themselves and employ others, rather than be job seekers.

“We as a college also want to bolster the number of students because that’s the only way of offering the potential for superior returns with more stability for the institution to expand even more,” Miss Kimaro notes.

Last August, Tanzania Agricultural Society (Taso) recognised HMC as the best, among other education institutions, in terms of marketing performance in the 2015 agricultural show. A panel of judges in agribusiness from Taso honoured the HMC for professional presentation to market its services in the just ended Nane Nane trade show in the northern zone.

“This is a milestone achievement indeed and I hope it will go a long way in encouraging all of us at HMC to work diligently to sustain the institution’s goals,” Miss Kimaro notes.
