Galaxy Note 4 hits shelves in Tanzania

Dar es Salaam. Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 is now available in Tanzanwia as the global technology firm positions itself to conquer the smart phone market in the country.

The new device, launched in the city at the weekend, will be retailing at Sh1.5 million and comes with a 5GB data bundle from Vodacom Tanzania.

According to the Samsung Electronics Tanzania managing director Mike Seo, the phone comes with improved S pen functionality that redefines the art of note taking.

“With the new Samsung Galaxy Note 4 this feature has been enhanced to make writing feel more real. It has increased sensitivity such as brush effect features that emulates the experience of writing on paper,” he said.

Other features include a user-friendly air command functions which allow the user to create content easily as well as a photo note feature which helps the user to take pictures of notes from a surface.

“Fitted to the phone is a large crystal screen complemented by an iconic 15mm S Pen that mimics the characteristics of writing on paper giving its user a digital superiority of note taking,” he said.

Communication, Science and Technology Permanent Secretary Patrick Makungu commended the company for the role it plays in the growth of Tanzania’s ICT sector.

“The launched products signify how Samsung Electronics is contributing to the development of the mobile, information and communication sector and hence contributing to growth of our economy and creating jobs for the youth and seasoned professionals,” said Prof Makungu.

He reminded participants the road that Tanzania has travelled with changes in mobile phone usage.

“It’s been a long way….In years gone these products were a luxury to selected group of people. Prior to the entry of the Samsung and similar companies, distribution channels were not direct and predominantly came through channels that were not beneficial to our country’s economy. It is encouraging that companies like Samsung are operating transparently for the general good of Tanzania’s economy,” he said.

According to Mr Seo, the innovation is the continuation of successful made since the company ventured into Galaxy Note innovation since 2011. During that time industry analyst brushed aside the concept that nobody could buy a larger screen version of the smart phone.
