Dar es Salaam. Tanzanian singer and entrepreneur Juma Jux, widely known as African Boy, has taken his fashion brand to new heights with the inauguration of the African Boy Factory in Dar es Salaam.
The new facility, currently in its setup phase, will enable Jux’s clothing line to move from retail and outsourced production to full-scale local manufacturing.
Announcing the news on Instagram, Jux wrote:
"I’ve got some good news, my people! Through the vision and effort of our African Boy brand—and with the grace of God—we’ve finally reached a huge milestone. The process of establishing our own African Boy clothing factory here in Tanzania has officially begun."
Launched in 2018, the African Boy brand has grown into one of Tanzania’s most recognisable fashion labels, offering T-shirts, trousers, caps, shoes, and accessories. Until now, the brand relied heavily on outsourced manufacturing, with Jux focusing on retail expansion—including the opening of the first African Boy store in Sinza in 2021.
With the new factory, Jux is positioning African Boy as a fully homegrown fashion powerhouse, aiming to supply both local and regional markets.
He added: "This is proof that young Tanzanians can invest, build, and believe in our own country. The journey continues, and this is just the beginning of something even bigger."
Industry analysts believe the African Boy Factory could provide a significant boost to Tanzania’s growing textile and apparel sector. The move is expected to create jobs, enhance skills development, and strengthen the country’s presence in the East African fashion industry.
Known for hits such as Enjoy and God Design, Jux has long balanced his music career with entrepreneurial ventures. The African Boy Factory solidifies his image not just as a musician, but as one of Tanzania’s most ambitious young business figures.
With the launch of the factory, Jux joins a growing list of African artistes leveraging their fame to build sustainable businesses beyond the stage.
