What you need to know:
The Burundian president says objectives of his tenure, including peace, security, democracy and justice, have been met.
Isolated by the EU, the US and EA neighbours, kurunziza has presided over a government so short of funds that civil servants had to ‘’donate’’ their salaries to fund the upcoming elections.
President Nkurunziza’s pledge not to contest will be put to the test when CNDD-FDD selects its candidate early next year.
