“We don’t have enough remand prisons to which we can send you, just consult prison officers in case of anything,” said magistrate Fimbo.

Dar es Salaam. The accused in a case linked with the murder of the former member of the Constitutional Review Commission (CRC), Dr Sengondo Mvungi, have expressed fear for their lives as they have been threatening each other in the remand prison.

The accused, who are all remanded at the Segerea Prison in Dar es Salaam, asked the Kisutu Resident Magistrates’ Court to send them in different remand prisons because putting them together has resulted in their endless fighting and threat making.

However, resident magistrate Sundi Fimbo turned down the request and advised them to consult with prison authorities.

“We don’t have enough remand prisons to which we can send you, just consult prison officers in case of anything,” said magistrate Fimbo.

The accused are Longishu Losingo who is alleged to be watchman at the deceased’s residence, Chibango Magozi, John Mayunga, Juma Kangungu, Masunga Msukuma, Paul Mdionondo, Mianda Mlewa, Zacharia Mseze, Msigwa Matonya and Ahmed Kitabu.

According to the public prosecutor, the accused attacked Dr Mvungi on November 3, this year, at his Msakuzi Kiswegere residence in Kinondoni District in the City causing his death.

The case yesterday came forward for mentioning while prosecution led by state attorney Yasintha Peter informed the court that investigations of the case were not complete.

Ms Peter asked the court to set another date of mentioning the case. The court set December 19.
