What you need to know:

  • The PDB, which was inaugurated by President Jakaya Kikwete, was mandated to rapidly follow through national key result areas from the BRN.

Dar es Salaam. Lack of enough experts to execute projects under the ‘Big Results Now’ (BRN) has been cited as among setbacks in implementation of such initiatives.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the President’s Delivery Bureau (PDB), Mr Omari Issa,  made the observation in Dar es Salaam  yesterday, on the sidelines of the forum for the BRN.

The PDB, which was inaugurated by President Jakaya Kikwete, was mandated to rapidly follow through national key result areas from the BRN.

However, Mr Issa expressed hope for good results from the initiative, noting that so far its implementation was on the right path.

“So far, the speed of  implementation is high and results are being confirmed as several projects are implemented,” noted Mr Issa.

But, he said a bigger  public awareness campaign was needed, to change the  mindset under which the government was  perceived as the only entity that was  tasked with implementing the initiative.

“We must emphasize the role of every stakeholder if we need our country to succeed in BRN,” he said.

Currently the PDB is making efforts to motivate and inform the stakeholders countrywide on  the goals of the BRN to enable them to effectively take part. The BRN, described as a “fast-track people-centred growth ‘marathon” focuses on six priority areas articulated in the Tanzania National development Vision 2025: energy and natural gas, agriculture, water, education, transport and mobilization of resources. The strategy has also been adopted by Rwanda and Nigeria.
