Dar es Salaam. Members of Parliament (MPs) from the opposition Chadema have given the reasons why Kinondoni residents should vote for its candidate, Mr Salumu Mwalimu, over the CCM candidate, Mr Maulid Mtulia.
Addressing a rally at the Ali Mapilau Grounds during the launch of the campaign on Saturday, January 27, the Mikumi MP, Mr Joseph Haule; the Tarime Urban MP, Ms Esther Matiko and the Special Seats MP, Ms Susan Lyimo, said voters shouldn’t vote for Mr Mtulia because the former legislator under the CUF ticket had despised them.
“Following his resignation, Mr Mtulia ignored you, your decision to reinstate him will surprise everyone. Vote for Mr Mwalimu, who will raise his voice for you,” said Mr Haule alias Professor Jay.
Mr Haule said Kinondoni was the heart of the country, deserving a better representation of its people.
“Voters in Mikumi are disappointed by his strange behavior, which is also an insult to the country’s democracy to vote for someone who despised his people,” he said.
Speaking during the meeting, Ms Lyimo pledged with Kinondoni residents to vote for Mr Mwalimu, who is hardworking.
“Mr Mtulia has decided to become a commodity to trade for himself, therefore, forget about him. Vote for Mr Mwalimu during the February 17 polls to become your legislator,” she said.
Speaking during the meeting, Ms Matiko said security organs should leave the political rivalry between the two parties, (CCM and Chadema), noting that voters in Kinondoni were the ones to decide.
“Citizens should be left to choose either a “defector” or the “commander,” she said.
The party’s Ilala regional chairman, Mr Makongoro Mahanga, said they were disappointed by Mr Mtulia’s decision.
“We will sleep in this Constituency for 20 days, but don’t make mistakes on February, 17,” he said.
The Bavicha chairman, Mr Patrick Ole Sosopi, said they were well organized to ensure Mr Mwalimu would emerge victorious.
“We are forced to participate in this by-election because of the negligence of one person as the money set aside for this by-election should have been used for implementing other development projects,” he said.
