Diallo, other CCM members quizzed over graft claims

        Mwanza/Simiyu. The Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) in Mwanza and Simiyu regions says it has interrogated members and leaders of CCM in the regions suspected of engaging in bribes during their rallies ahead of the party’s nomination process to elect its leaders.

Mr Antony Diallo, who is defending his seat as CCM chairman in Mwanza Region, is among those interrogated.

The head of PCCB in Mwanza Region, Mr Ernest Makale, told this paper by telephone yesterday that Mr Diallo was arrested on Friday, while campaigning in Ukerewe District.

“PCCB officers were tipped off about Mr Diallo allegedly engaging in corruption, while campaigning. The PCCB officers inspected his car,” he said.

He noted that PCCB officers later allowed Mr Diallo to continue with his campaign after they found him with no evidence on the alleged corrupt practices.

CCM election for its leaders in Mwanza Region is being held today at the CCM grounds in Ilemela District.

However, the head of PCCB in Simiyu Region, Mr Adili Elinipenda, noted that several CCM members and those vying for leadership positions had been arrested after they were suspected of engaging in corrupt practices.

But he explained that he could not immediately reveal the names of the arrested suspects.

CCM members will elect its leaders in Simiyu Region tomorrow.
