ETDCO board lauds progress of Tabora–Katavi power transmission project

Tabora. The Board of Directors of the Electricity Transmission and Distribution Construction and Maintenance Company (ETDCO) has expressed satisfaction with the effective supervision and implementation of the 132kV electricity transmission project connecting Tabora to Katavi.
During a project inspection tour conducted on Monday, 19 May, in Tabora Region, Board Chairman, Mr Raymond Mbilinyi, remarked that the project was progressing commendably.
He affirmed that by the end of June this year, electricity from the national grid would reach Mpanda District in Katavi Region.

“We are satisfied with the progress of the 132kV electricity transmission project from Tabora to Katavi, which has now reached 96 percent completion,” said Mr Mbilinyi.
Acting General Manager, Mr Sadock Mugendi, briefed the board that the construction was in its final stages, with ongoing inspections of the transmission line.
He noted that the project is expected to reach full completion by the end of June 2025, enabling the provision of power to the Katavi Region.
Meanwhile, Western Zone Director of Tanesco, Engineer Richard Swai, highlighted that the completion of the project would significantly improve electricity supply in both Tabora and Katavi regions.
Engineer Swai also urged residents in the project areas to prepare for the arrival of grid-connected electricity, emphasising the potential it holds to stimulate economic activity and growth, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, industry, processing, and value addition.
