Dar es Salaam. Former minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives and Member of Parliament for Karatu, Mr Patrick Qorro, has died at the Muhimbili Othopaediatic Institute (Moi) where he had been undergoing treatment.

Mr Qorro died at 8.30pm on Saturday after his urinary system failed, according to the family’s spokesperson, Mr James Bwana.

“He started complaining of discomfort in his leg last week. First, we thought it was stroke, but after rushing him to the hospital, it was discovered that there was blood oozing in his head surrounding the brain and this, according to medical experts, was due to urinary system failure,” he said.

Mr Qorro (72) was a parliamentarian for Karatu and served as minister and deputy minister for agriculture and cooperatives in the 1970s during the presidency of Julius Nyerere and Ali Hassan Mwinyi when he was aged 28, by then he was the youngest minister in the Cabinet.

His young brother, Josephat Qorro told this paper that he quited active politics in the year 2000 after vying for a seat and was defeated by Chadema secretary general Dr Willibrod Slaa.

Mr Bwana said, Qorro has left a widow with five children and five grandchildren. He will be buried on Wednesday at his home village of Upper Kitete Village in Karatu District, Arusha Region.
