FEET Tanzania’s GEC on a path towards empowering young girls

The Foundation for the Educational and Environmental Advancement of Tanzanians (FEET), has launched a Girls Entrepreneurship Camp (GEC) to empower young girls to become entrepreneurs.

The program, designed by Rania Nasser, a Tanzanian student at UC Berkeley and co-founder of FEET, provides essential skills needed for success in school, at home, and in future careers. The program has so far benefited 37 schools in Tanzania.

The GEC spans over two days, during which participants work in teams and are mentored by coaches. On the third day, students present and defend their solutions before a panel of industry experts.

Participants learn essential skills including leadership, communication, conflict resolution, forming a business team, conducting market research, determining product price, budgeting, inventory control, marketing, and presenting their ideas. By the end of the program, each team will have written a business plan and worked with a designer to visualize their product.

FEET is committed to empowering young people to change their lives and communities, and the Girls Entrepreneurship Camp is one way of doing this. The organization believes that young people, even in the poorest and most disadvantaged neighborhoods, have the power to effect change.

FEET is developing an app for the Girls Entrepreneurship Camps, which will be made available on IOS and Android in Swahili and English. The app will offer users a digital platform with entrepreneurship related games, quizzes, forums, and other interactive content to provide a taste of what it takes to turn an idea into reality.

FEET has been holding an annual Girls Stem Competition, and with the Girls Entrepreneurship Camp, the organization hopes to promote gender equality in the world of entrepreneurship. The program is breaking down barriers and empowering young girls to become future business leaders.

I learned that with little to no resources, I can make a huge difference if passion and determination are there,” says one of the participants, highlighting the impact of FEET Tanzania's Girls Entrepreneurship Camp on empowering young girls to become future business leaders.
