Dar es Salaam. Former Tanzanian Minister of Energy and Minerals, Dr Ibrahim Msabaha, died on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, while on his way from his home in Masaki to Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) in Dar es Salaam for treatment.

Dr Msabaha, who resigned from his position in 2008 due to the Richmond scandal, had been suffering from a long-term hip problem and heart disease.

Abubakar Msabaha, a family spokesperson, told The Citizen that health challenges had been bothering Dr Msabaha for a long time and that it was routine for him to be taken to the Jakaya Kikwete Heart Institute (JKCI) for regular check-ups.

“Our elder was suffering from a hip problem and heart disease for a long time now, and we always brought him to the Heart Institute for treatment. Up until yesterday, he was fine,” said Abubakar.

He added that Dr Msabaha had been hospitalized at the institute twice in the past month for the same problems and was discharged after his condition improved.

“Whenever his health changed, we would rush him to the hospital for treatment,” he said.

Abubakar said that funeral arrangements for Dr Msabaha, who also served as Minister for East African Cooperation and Member of Parliament for Kibaha, are underway.

He is expected to be buried on Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. in the village of Soga, located in Kongwe, Kibaha District, Pwani Region.

His death came two days after the passing of former Prime Minister Edward Lowassa, who, just like Msabaha, also resigned from his position due to the Richmond scandal.
