Simba secure vital Champions League win over Mighty Wanderers

The forward made the most of the opportunity to give Simba a valuable advantage heading into the return leg.

Simba now need only a draw or another victory in the second leg to secure qualification for the next preliminary round of the continental competition.

The return match will be played on Sunday at the Azam Complex, with kick-off scheduled for 4pm. Simba will be hoping to use home advantage and the support of their fans to complete the job against the Malawian side.

Although Simba secured the victory, they had opportunities to score more goals during the encounter. The Tanzanian side created several chances, but their finishing let them down on a number of occasions, with some efforts going wide of the target.

 Other attempts were saved by the Mighty Wanderers goalkeeper, who kept his side in the contest and prevented Simba from building a bigger advantage.

Simba will therefore need to be more clinical in front of goal in the second leg, particularly because Mighty Wanderers will be looking to overturn the deficit and keep their Champions League campaign alive.

 The team that advances from the Simba and Mighty Wanderers tie will face the winner of the preliminary-round contest between Cameroon’s Colombe Sportive and Mali’s Stade Malien in the next stage.

 The second preliminary round first legs are scheduled to be played from October 16 to 18, while the decisive return matches will take place between October 23 and 25.

For Simba, however, the immediate focus remains on Sunday’s return fixture. The club will be determined to avoid complacency despite holding a narrow advantage from the first meeting.

A victory would send Simba through with confidence, while a draw would also be enough to secure their place in the next round. Mighty Wanderers, meanwhile, must win if they are to overturn the 1-0 deficit and prevent the Tanzanian giants from progressing.
