GGML marks 25 years with Sh20 Million contribution to CRDB marathon

The Acting General Manager of Geita Gold Mining (GGML), Duan Campbell (fifth from ledt), led other employees of the mine in a warm-up session before  participating in the 21-kilometer CRDB marathon held on Sunday, August 17, in Dar es Salaam.

Dar es Salaam. Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) has reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to improving health outcomes in Tanzania by contributing 20 million Tanzanian shillings to the 2025 CRDB Bank Marathon.

The donation will support the treatment of women experiencing high-risk pregnancies through the Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT) Hospital.

The CRDB Marathon, now in its fifth year, has become a flagship event in mobilising resources for health-related causes across the country. GGML’s participation this year is part of its 25th-anniversary celebrations and reflects its ongoing dedication to partnering with impactful organisations and initiatives to improve the lives of Tanzanians.

For GGML, the investment in maternal health is not new. Over the past 25 years, the company has built, renovated, and supported hospitals and health centres in the Geita Region, including construction of maternity wards, outpatient departments, and essential health infrastructure. These investments have contributed to safer deliveries, improved access to care, and better treatment for thousands of families.

One such beneficiary is Grace Ezekiel, a 25-year-old mother of three and a small-scale entrepreneur from Geita. "With my first two children, I was always anxious about the delivery process. This time, I felt at peace," she said. "The renovations, the improved facilities, and the supportive prenatal care I received made me confident to choose Nkome Health Centre. I knew the care would not end at delivery — and even now, as I receive postnatal services, I still feel supported.”

GGML’s recent renovation of Nkome Health Centre included a maternity ward and outpatient department, which have since played a crucial role in providing timely medical interventions for mothers and newborns in the area.

Speaking about the company’s participation in the CRDB Marathon, Duan Campbell, Acting General Manager of Sustainability and Corporate Affairs for AngloGold Ashanti, said:

“Our legacy as a central operation within AngloGold Ashanti in Tanzania, is written in the stories of the many families and individuals who have benefited from our community investments. Maternal health is a particularly important priority for us because it touches the very core of community well-being. Through initiatives like this, we aim to ensure that more women and children can look forward to healthy futures.”

As GGML marks a quarter-century of operations, its participation in the CRDB Marathon highlights its continued commitment to mining that empowers people and advances societies.
