The equipment was handed to the Minister for Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children, Ms Ummy Mwalimu, who thanked the Kuwait government for working closely with the government of Tanzania in improving the health sector.

Dar es Salaam. Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKIC) has received a massive support from Kuwait in the form of medical equipment worth Sh325 million.

The equipment was handed to the Minister for Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children, Ms Ummy Mwalimu, who thanked the Kuwait government for working closely with the government of Tanzania in improving the health sector.

According to JKIC executive director, Prof Mohammed Janabi, the centre had two theatres; one performing cardiothoracic surgeries and one small surgery room.

He said that using the facilities, JKIC will now be able to build a state-of-the art surgery room designated for children and another one for adults.

This, said Prof Janabi, will speed up operations from three to six per day. So far, a total of 713 operations have been conducted in only one theater since 2015.

The Kuwait ambassador to Tanzania, Jasem Al Najem, pledged his continuing support to improving the health sector.
