Lindi set to host Uhuru torch, Showcasing Sh22.4bn projects

Lindi Regional Commissioner Zainabu Telack announced that the Uhuru Torch will visit a total of 59 development projects in the region, with a collective value of TSh 22.4 billion.
Mtama. The Lindi Region has officially received the Uhuru Torch from the neighbouring Mtwara Region. In Lindi, the torch will be carried across 999.7 kilometres, covering all six local councils in the region.
Speaking today, Monday 26 May 2025, Lindi Regional Commissioner Zainabu Telack announced that the Uhuru Torch will visit a total of 59 development projects in the region, with a collective value of TSh 22.4 billion.
Telack further explained that foundation stones will be laid for 19 projects, 6 projects will be inaugurated, and 34 will be inspected during the torch’s journey.
“The Uhuru Torch will traverse all six councils of Lindi Region, inspecting and launching a total of 59 projects worth TSh 22.4 billion,” said Telack.
Meanwhile, the District Commissioner of Lindi, Victoria Mwanziva, upon receiving the torch from the Regional Commissioner, stated that in Mtama District Council, the torch will be carried for 105 kilometres, during which 7 projects worth TSh 2 billion will be visited, inaugurated, and have foundation stones laid.
“We’ll run the Uhuru Torch across 105 kilometres in Mtama Council, where it will inaugurate, inspect and lay foundation stones for 7 projects valued at TSh 2 billion,” said Mwanziva.
She called upon the people of Mtama to turn out in large numbers to welcome the Uhuru Torch as it passes through their communities.
“I urge all residents of Mtama Council to come out in large numbers to welcome and cheer the Uhuru Torch as it passes through their areas,” said DC Mwanziva.
