Lubricants firm eyes bigger TZ market

Dar es Salaam. Lubricants concern Fuchs Group is upbeat about a “stronger presence” in the Tanzanian market after striking a deal with established local blending companies.
Fuchs Southern Africa managing direcor Paul Deppe said in a statement to The Citizen yesterday that the company’s decision to expand its presence in Tanzania was informed by the ongoing infrastructure and industrial development projects, which have turned the country into a key economy in East Africa.
Fuchs products are already available in the Tanzanian market, but the company said it was looking forward to directly servicing its customers in the coming months.
“Fuchs has historically been manufactured in Tanzania through our independent distributor, which means that we have been able to competitively engage our customers,” he said.
“We intend to continue expanding that engagement in our new Joint Venture.”
Formed in Mannheim in 1931, Fuchs Group employs more than 5,000 people worldwide at 58 operating companies.
It is one of the world’s largest independent lubricant manufacturers, with its most important markets in terms of sales revenues being Western Europe, Asia and North America.
In Tanzania, the company currently employs over 200 people, and is looking to adding 50 more in the next few months.
