Morogoro. The drive to promote digital education in Tanzania received a boost recently after Lyra in Africa, an organisation promoting development through education extended the implementation of its digital learning project to the Morogoro region with the handover of a computer lab at Morogoro Teachers College.

The newly installed computer lab, which comprises 30 computers, a projector, a printer, and a whiteboard, will serve as an ICT center of excellence within Morogoro Teachers College.

Not only will the college benefit from this advanced learning environment, but nearby schools will also have the opportunity to utilise this center, enriching the digital education landscape in the region.

Speaking during the handover ceremony held at the college, Lyra’s Executive Director, Cikay Richards said that the organisation’s expansion to teachers college in Morogoro is a step towards equipping educators with ICT knowledge for them to easily transfer the knowledge to students who are the primary beneficiaries of the program.

"The expansion to Morogoro Teachers College marks a pivotal moment for Lyra’s digital education initiative, emphasising its dedication to bridging the digital divide and empowering students and educators with the tools they need to succeed in the digital age." Said Ms Richards.

Ms Richards added that "Lyra has made significant strides in equipping rural secondary schools with the necessary resources. To date, Lyra has installed nine computer labs in Iringa rural, fostering a conducive environment for digital learning and innovation".

The college’s principal, Augustine Sahili highlighted how the equipment will be instrumental in transforming the learning and teaching at the college and the surrounding environment.

"The equipment will help in bridging the existing ICT and digital divide in our region. The computer lab will also be resourceful to schools and students surrounding our college which makes it more advantageous," he said.
