  • Despite latest data from the Health ministry showing that malaria prevalence in Tanzania has dropped from 18.1 percent in 2008 to 8.1 percent in 2022, the disease remains one of the highest causes of death in the country.

Msalala. The Barrick Bulyanhulu announced an anti-malaria campaign as it seeks to play an increasingly important role in the eradication of a disease that is one of the major causes of deaths in Tanzania.

Despite latest data from the Health ministry showing that malaria prevalence in Tanzania has dropped from 18.1 percent in 2008 to 8.1 percent in 2022, the disease remains one of the highest causes of death in the country.

It was against such a background that the Barrick Bulyanhulu has designed a campaign which is codenamed: “Zero Malaria inaanza na mimi, wewe na sisi sote” which is literally translated as “Zero Malaria begins with me, you and us”.

Speaking during the event to announce the campaign, the manager for Barrick Bulyanhulu, Cheick Sangare, said the company would continue to support the government’s initiatives meant to improve the health of Tanzanians.

Through the campaign, he said, the company would fumigate 17,500 households to kill mosquitoes that spread malaria parasites.

It will also distribute mosquito nets for free.

The District Executive Director for Msalala, Mr Khamis Katimba urged residents to cooperate and make the campaign a success.
