Dar es Salaam. The Tanzanian media fraternity is in mourning following the passing of Sharon Sauwa, a dedicated journalist with Mwananchi Communications Limited (MCL), who died on Monday while receiving treatment at Muhimbili National Hospital. She was 50.

Her father, Mr Steven Lamlembe, confirmed her passing and said the funeral is scheduled for Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Pugu Mwakenga Cemetery, near Pugu Secondary School in Dar es Salaam.

Sharon joined MCL in August 2013, taking up her post at the Dodoma newsroom, from where she delivered insightful and distinguished reporting on the administrative capital and its neighbouring regions.

Colleagues remember her not only for her consummate professionalism but also for her generosity in nurturing young journalists.

Close friend and Habari Leo journalist, Annastazia Anyimike, described Sharon as both a mirror and a steadfast support to those around her.

“She was more than a friend; she was like family. Sharon’s passing pains me deeply. I never expected it so suddenly,” she said.

Chairperson of the Dodoma Journalists Association, Mussa Yusufu, said Sharon’s career exemplified dedication and integrity.

“In Dodoma’s media community, Sharon stood out as one of the most experienced and knowledgeable journalists. She guided colleagues tirelessly, especially young female reporters, whom she nurtured like a guardian,” he said.

Sharon’s influence extended well beyond the newsroom.

Neighbour and fellow prayer group member, Zilipa Lyimo, recalled that Sharon had recently been elected one of the leaders of their community group in absentia, a reflection of the trust and respect she inspired among those who knew her personally.

Her contribution to journalism and the wider community remains immeasurable.

Sharon Sauwa will be remembered not only as a mentor, a guide, and a consummate professional, but also as a source of unwavering inspiration to colleagues, friends, and all whose lives she touched.
