MCT nominates over 100 entries for 2013 Ejat finals

Dar es Salaam. The Media Council of Tanzania (MCT) yesterday announced the nominees for the 2013 Excellence in Journalism Awards Tanzania (Ejat) where out of 101 nominees, 46 were from print.
The nominees were selected out of more than 900 entries for the 2013 Ejat. The award giving ceremony will be held on March 14, at Mlimani City hall in Dar es Salaam.
The acting secretary general of Ejat organising committee, Ms Pili Mtambalike, said apart from print media having many nominees, it has also seen an increase of five nominees from 41 recorded 2013.
However, a large increase of nomination was seen among Television journalists where 18 nominees have been selected compared to 21 nominees in 2012.
Only 16 entries from Radio journalists have been nominated, showing a decrease from 19 nominees in 2012.
Ms Mtambalike said the nomination was a result of a seven-day work by nine judges, who were sworn in by the president of the MCT governing board, Justice Robert Kisanga.
The panel consists of Mr Gervas Moshiro, as a chairperson, Mr Mwanzo Millinga, Mr Chrysostom Rweyemamu, Ms Ananilea Nkya, Mr Jesse Kwayu, Mr Hassan Mittawi, Ms Pudenciana Temba and Mr Suleiman Kissoky.
Meanwhile, a panel of media gurus for the Life Time Achievement in Journalism award (Laja) chaired by Mr Theophil Makunga has also submitted names of nominees and the winner will be announced at the same Ejat awards giving gala night.
