Mystery as village wakes up to another fire

What you need to know:

The cause of the fire that injured the four children from the same family is yet to be known. This is the second fire in a week. In the first fire, barely seven days ago gutted 11 houses in the same village.

Tarime. Mystery has engulfed Nyabikondo Village in Kemambo Ward after a fire left four children with serious burns on Monday.

The cause of the fire that injured the four children from the same family is yet to be known. This is the second fire in a week. In the first fire barely seven days ago gutted 11 houses in the same village.

Victims in the latest incident have been identified as Augustino Karuma, Wankuru Karuma, Benjamini Karuma and Mwita Chacha.

They are currently admitted at Sungusungu Health Care Centre. A medical officer at the centre, Dr Kemenya Peter, described the injuries as serious.

Reports from the village reveal that the fire razed the Karuma house while the children slept.

Tarime District Commissioner Gloriuis Luoga, who toured the village this week, has since ordered the security committee to probe the causes of the fires.

She said: “The circumstances are fishy as it seems some people are intentionally torching houses. The fire which destroyed 11 houses started from a roof and not from inside a house,” said Ms Luoga.

The Tarime District Council has donated Sh2.2 million to the victims of the fire accidents. Each household received Sh200,000.
