Dar es Salaam. A new initiative is seeking to prevent child sexual violence by providing awareness and improving health services.

The two-year project, introduced by the Children's Dignity Forum (CDF), aims to provide sexual health education to children and empower healthcare providers to offer quality, youth-friendly reproductive health services.

CDF’s executive director, Mr Koshuma Mtengeti, noted that the primary goal of the initiative is to reduce the incidence of child sexual abuse in Mpwapwa district, Dodoma Region, by fostering community engagement in prevention efforts.

The project targets Pwaga and Lupeta wards in the district.

"The initiative will involve various stakeholders, including children in schools, teachers, school administrators, government officials, landlords, healthcare providers, and parents, in making this initiative a success," he told The Citizen.

Mr Mtengeti explained that community-wide education initiatives on sexual violence will be conducted through debates, pamphlets, public meetings, and media campaigns.

CDF was established in 2006. It operates in various regions, including Mara and Dodoma.

Its mission is to implement programmes and initiatives that advocate for, defend, and enhance the rights and well-being of Tanzanian children.
