Dar es Salaam. The newly appointed chief executive officer of the Nation Media Group (NMG), Mr Joe Muganda, has promised to deliver as he assumes responsibility over East Africa’s largest media house.
Mr Muganda who is hardly one-month-old at NMG was introduced to Tanzanian investors, advertisers, readers and other stakeholders on Tuesday evening at Serena Hotel. He also spoke to employees of Mwananchi Communications Limited (MCL) at the media house’s headquarters yesterday. MCL which publishes The Citizen, Mwananchi and Mwanaspoti newspapers is a subsidiary of the Nairobi-based NMG.
“I’m committed to delivering to shareholders and hope the Board will support me. I’m also passionate in developing young talents who will move Africa to the next level,” said Mr Muganda.
He also pledged to ensure that NMG and its subsidiaries continue to report correct, fair and balanced news in order to build trust among different players.
Mr Muganda who encouraged MCL employees yesterday to work harder for the company to meet its targets, reiterated his remarks that the company would remain neutral in its coverage of the General Election in October.
The new CEO replaces Mr Linus Gitahi who went on early retirement to pursue personal interests. MCL board chairman Leonard Mususa said there was some mistrust between Tanzania’s media and the government and called upon the local press to work together to push for balanced legislation. “We need to build that trust through fair and balanced coverage,” said Mr Mususa.
