Babati. French minister for Environment and Energy, Segolene Royal, has donated solar power equipment to residents of Vilima Vitatu Village here in recognition of their efforts to conserve the environment.
Speaking at a handing over ceremony at Mdori Primary School on Monday, the minister said her government has been funding various projects in the country.
She said the support was given after the French government was happy with the environmental conservation efforts made by people in the village that hosts wildlife routes. “The solar powered lights will enable school children study at night, women carry out their activities, and for people as a whole to re-charge their mobile phones. I have given the support in recognition of your efforts on conserving the environment,” she said.
She added that the French government would continue financing projects linked to the conservation of wildlife routes near Tarangire and Manyara national parks to ensure the residents benefit from conservation.
