Number of malaria deaths falls to 5, says Z’bar

Zanzibar. The number of malaria deaths fell to five in 2017, Zanzibar Health minister Hamad Rashid Mohamed says.

Zanzibar plans to launch of a Sh1.3 billion mosquito net distribution programme to check malaria-parasite transmissions.

People who will benefit from 195,000 -insecticide-treated nets will be those living in malaria-prone areas.

He called upon would-be beneficiaries to use the mosquito nets as intended.

According to him, the programme will be funded by US Global Fund.

He hopes that upon its completion Zanzibar will attain a malaria-free status.

‘’Despite making strides, there are still many malaria cases and more fight is needed wipe out the disease.’’
