Nyerere’s in-law now laid to rest

Musoma. Mara regional commissioner Aseri Msangi yesterday led mourners at the burial of former Special Seats MP on a Chadema ticket, Leticia Nyerere.
Leticia, who died last week at the Doctors Community Hospital in Lanham, Maryland, US, was burried at Mwitongo in Butiama District yesterday.
The deceased was the wife of Mr Madaraka Nyerere, one of the sons of the Father of the Nation Mwalimu Nyerere in 1996, and the couple was blessed with three children.
Speaking at the burial ceremony, an official from the President’s Office, Mr Aloyce Msigwa, said the government had the responsibility of taking care of retired leaders and their family members, and that was why they participated fully during Leticia’s illness and eventually, her burial.
Earlier, during a mass held at the Roman Catholic Church in the village, Father Julius Ogola urged wananchi to be God-fearing in their lifetime.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Mr Makongoro Nyerere thanked the government for its support. He remarked that Leticia spent most of her time promoting national interests.
One of the high-profile participants at the burial was retired Chief of Defence Force,David Msuguri.
Leticia was born in 1959 at Kituba Village in Mwanza Region. She decamped from Chadema to CCM last July and developed health complications in October last year.
