Dodoma. Oryx Gas Tanzania has officially announced its sponsorship of the Tanzania Scouts camp, underscoring its commitment to youth empowerment, environmental protection, and the promotion of clean cooking energy.

The company has donated 260 gas cylinders, both large and small, along with cookers to the Scouts Association of Tanzania. The gesture marks the first time scouts camps will shift from using firewood to gas for cooking.

Speaking during the training camp, which has brought together scouts from across the country, Oryx Gas Mainland Sales manager Alex Wambi said the support was a milestone in promoting clean energy and preparing young people for leadership.

“This contribution is not just about gas. It symbolises trust, shared values, and a commitment to building a safe and hopeful future,” he said.

Mr Wambi explained that the decision to support the scouts camp aligned with the company’s mission of making clean energy accessible, safe, and beneficial to communities.

“We see scouts not merely as beneficiaries, but as ambassadors who will carry the message of clean cooking into their families, schools, and communities across Tanzania,” he noted.

He further described the camp as a “live classroom” where scouts would learn to use LPG safely, understand its benefits, and promote clean energy in their areas.

“Our expectation is that the scouts association will nurture responsible young citizens eager to drive change,” he said, adding that Oryx hoped to see scouts leading campaigns on clean cooking and incorporating LPG safety into their training.

Oryx Gas Clean Energy Solutions Project manager, Peter Ndomba, said the camp provided a platform to advance the company’s mission of promoting youth development and clean energy use.

He noted that hundreds of scouts from across Tanzania were expected to attend, making it an important platform for leadership, community service, and environmental awareness.

“Our sponsorship is part of a wider mission to expand the use of clean cooking energy and encourage efficient practices among young people and communities,” he said.

Alongside the donation, Oryx Gas will run training sessions on LPG safety, energy efficiency, and the role of clean cooking in tackling climate change.  Mr Ndomba stressed that the initiative was not only a boost to Scouts but also a step towards stronger partnerships in advancing Tanzania’s clean energy agenda.
