Peport: Local government officials top corruption list

81 corruption corruption allegations have been reported to the PCCB in this year's first quarter.

Geita. A quarterly report compiled by the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) in Geita states that local government authorities are on top of the list officials reported for corruption.
Briefing the media on the first quarter performance report, Geita regional PCCB commander Thobias Ndaro said local government authorities had 10 allegations against them, the highest number compared to other institutions over the last three months.
Mr Ndaro said a total of 81 corruption allegations were reported during the first quarter. After investigations only 18 allegations were pursued by PCCB after throwing out the rest for lack of evidence.
“Out of 18 accusations 10 involve local government officials; we have filed cases at courts of law for some of allegations while we are still collecting evidence for others,” said Mr Ndaro.
Other institutions whose officials were reported include courts (6) and the health sector (2).
The PCCB regional boss called for wananchi to volunteer information that will help the PCCB corrupt individuals.
According to Mr Ndaro between January and March PCCB filed eleven cases against district councils’ officials as well as contractors over corruption.
