Dar es Salaam. The Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police have launched an investigation into allegations of a missing woman reported in the Bahari Beach area of Kinondoni District.

This follows social media reports posted on Thursday, July 17, 2025, by the former Tanzania ambassador to Cuba, Humphrey Polepole, who claimed that unidentified individuals had scaled a perimeter wall and taken away his sister.

Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Jumanne Muliro, confirmed in a public notice that the woman in question, identified as 52-year-old Christina Hezroni Polepole Kinyangazi, appeared at Kawe Police Station on July 18, 2025.

“She reported that she had indeed been taken by unknown individuals but was returned home the same day,” said Mr Muliro.

He noted that the Police Force, working jointly with members of the public and other state security agencies, is committed to maintaining peace and safety in the city, which remains calm and stable.

“The Police Force is currently investigating all aspects related to this matter for further legal action,” added Mr Muliro in a public notice issued on Friday, July 18, 2025.

The alleged incident and subsequent developments have drawn widespread attention on social media, with users calling for swift investigations and improved neighbourhood security.

Police have urged the public to remain calm and allow law enforcement agencies to conduct thorough investigations before drawing any conclusions, “Further updates on the case will be provided as investigations progress.”

In a video clip that went viral on social media, Mr Polepole is depicted saying his sister was taken from her home in Bahari Beach, Dar es Salaam.

He claims that unknown individuals entered his sister’s residence at around 5 p.m. on Thursday and took her away, “Our elder sister called my mother, saying people had come for her. They entered the house and took her.”

He went on to say that his sister, who lives alone, has been unreachable since the incident. “Her phone has not been answered since yesterday evening.”

He also described suspicious movements at the property, alleging that unknown individuals, neither family nor friends, were seen entering and leaving the compound.

Several vehicles, including a Land Cruiser and a Noah van, were reportedly spotted at the scene.

Currently in the country, Mr Polepole appealed directly to the alleged people. “If someone is looking for me, I’m available. Return my sister’s phone to her.”

He said the ordeal had shaken his sense of belonging. “I feel deeply uncomfortable, that’s why I resigned. I’m a man of God. I do not accept this.”
