Residents call for completion irrigation scheme

Lindi. Resident from Mingoyo ward in the municipality to hold accountable all officials, who have caused the implementation of an irrigation scheme not to be completed on time.
According to some residents the implementation of the Sh110 million project was initially supposed to be completed before the end of 2015. But the project, whose implementations started in 2014 is yet to be completed and apparently there are no reasons which have been given to wananchi.
Ms Fatuma Nandaje, one of the residents, said they suspect that some unscrupulous officials have embezzled the funds.
“It’s not fair that some few unscrupulous officials have embezzled funds, which would have been used to implement a project, which will benefit over 20000 residents,” said Ms Nandaje.
The money for the implementation of the project was disbursed by the government through Tanzania Social Action Fund (Tasaf).
Reached for his comments Tasaf municipal coordinator Datifa Kisima refused to comment because she isn’t spokesperson. On her part Lindi Municipal executive Director Mr Jomari Satura said his office is aware of the problem.
Mr Satura added that the Lindi Regional Commissioner Mr Godfrey Zambi formed a team to probe the implementation of the project.
