Samia: Monthly revenue collection hits Sh3.09 trillion

President Samia Suluhu Hassan addresses Parliament before dissolving the 12th Parliament in Dodoma today, 27 June 2025.
Dar es Salaam. President Samia Suluhu Hassan said on Friday, June 27, 2025, that monthly domestic revenue collection rose from Sh1.51 trillion in November 2020 to Sh3.09 trillion in March 2025—an increase of 104 percent.
She attributed the growth to various initiatives, including the use of electronic systems to enhance tax collection, plugging revenue leakages, establishing the tax and investment platform, and strengthening the capacity of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) and other revenue-collecting institutions.
She noted that these efforts were in line with her directives during the opening of Parliament, where she underscored the importance of enhancing taxpayer education to promote voluntary compliance.
“To strengthen tax oversight, I established the Presidential Tax Reform Commission, whose work is expected to drive executive-level reforms in the country’s taxation and revenue systems,” she said in the Parliament dissolution speech.
President Hassan also highlighted improvements in public service delivery, noting that the national budget rose from Sh34.88 trillion in 2020/21 to Sh50.29 trillion in 2024/25—an average annual increase of 8.8 percent.
“I commend this Parliament for passing these budgets,” she said, adding that the increased allocations have spurred national development by enhancing the provision of social services and facilitating the implementation of development projects.
