Kibaha. President Samia Suluhu Hassan is set to visit the Coast Region on July 31, 2025 to officially inaugurate the Kwala Dry Port in Kibaha District, a major logistics facility designed to boost Tanzania’s cargo handling capacity.

Speaking on July 22, Coast Regional Commissioner, Abubakari Kunenge, said the port can handle up to 823 containers daily, amounting to over 300,000 containers annually.

“This capacity will reduce cargo truck congestion in Dar es Salaam by approximately 30 per cent,” he said.

Mr Kunenge described the President’s visit as historic for the region’s residents.

Apart from officiating the launch, President Hassan is expected to address the public and engage with their concerns.

The Kwala dry port is part of the government’s broader plan to enhance transport infrastructure, ease congestion at Dar es Salaam Port, and improve cargo movement efficiency to inland regions and neighbouring countries.

Funded through a significant public-private partnership, the facility is anticipated to be a key driver of economic growth in the Coast Region and nationally.

Local residents have welcomed the development, saying it will help ease traffic along the busy Morogoro–Dodoma highway, particularly during peak hours.

“There’s been a serious problem with traffic jams caused by cargo trucks, especially in the evenings. This launch will bring much-needed relief,” said a resident of Malimoja, Neema Experi.
