Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan has visited Singida East Member of Parliament Tundu Lissu admitted to Nairobi Hospital.

The Vice President headed to the hospital shortly after she attended President Uhuru Kenyatta’s inauguration on Tuesday, November 28.

Mr Lissu has been receiving treatment at the hospital since September 7 following multiple gunshots he sustained in an attempted assassination at his Dodoma residence by some unknown people.

The Vice President, who was accompanied by Tanzania’s High Commissioner to Kenya, Dr Pindi Chana, arrived at the hospital at around 5pm.

Ms Samia becomes the top most government leader to visit Mr Lissu three months after the attack.

Mr Lissu, who is also head of the Tanganyika Law Society, has had a series of run-ins with President John Magufuli's government, and has been arrested at least six times this year alone, accused of insulting the Head of State and disturbing public order, among other charges.

He serves as the Chief whip for the Official Opposition in Parliament, and as Chama Cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (Chadema) lead lawyer.

His most recent arrest was in August, after revealing that a plane bought for the national carrier, Air Tanzania Company Limited, had been impounded in Canada over unpaid government debts amounting to about Sh83 billion.
