Serengeti boundary dispute to engage 3 ministers: PM

Meatu. Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa said yesterday that he will send three ministers to Simiyu Region so that they would work with district leaders and wananchi to find solutions to land disputes.
The Premier was speaking to Mwakaluba and Mwandoya villagers who complained over the long time land conflict between villages and the Serengeti National Park.
“I have been receiving complaints regarding disputes over land boundaries between the Serengeti National Park surrounding villages,” he said.
According to Mr Majaliwa the three ministers would travel to Simiyu to resolve the matter as soon as possible.
He named them as the minister for Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, Mr William Lukuvi, that of Natural Resources and Tourism, Prof Jumanne Maghembe, and the Minister of State in the President’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government), Mr George Simbachawene.
“They will visit each district in this region and listen to both farmers and herders. We need to find lasting solutions to problems related to land,” he said.
He said Mr Simbachawene would be required to give clarifications on why wananchi should not conduct any activity within 60 metres from Simiyu River.
The Premier added that the government was looking forward to form 100 land councils that would be used to address all land disputes in the country.
Meanwhile, Maswa district executive director Tracias Kagenzi died suddenly yesterday. According to information obtained from Maswa, Mr Kagenzi collapsed suddenly while he was at his home.
The director died as Premier Majaliwa is today scheduled to tour Maswa district.
