The exercise took place at Nebuye Village on a three hectare piece of land where marijuana was growing in the forest near Mabuta hills.

Ukerewe. Members of the District Defence and Security Committee on Thursday uprooted and burnt marijuana valued at Sh30 million.

The exercise took place at Nebuye Village on a three hectare piece of land where marijuana was growing in the forest near Mabuta hills.

Speaking during the exercise, Ukerewe District Administrative Secretary, Focus Majumbi ordered residents to stop cultivating marijuana and instead focus on cash crops like cotton and food produce.

“Ukerewe imports food from outside the district despite the fact we have fertile land with sufficient rainfall throughout the year,” said Majumbi adding,:

“This is because many residents including those from Nabuye grow marijuana,” he stressed.

Revealing how the marijuana was discovered, Ukerewe OCD, Ally Mkalipa said, his office was given a tip off from concerned wananchi. He urged wananchi to continue sharing helpful information in order to fight crime.
