Rorya. Seven people have lost their lives in a grisly road accident that occurred early this morning, September 11, 2025, at Buganjo village in Rorya District, after a passenger vehicle rammed into a stationary truck.

Tarime/Rorya Special Zone Police Commander, Mark Njera, confirmed the incident, saying the accident happened at around 5 a.m. when a Toyota Succeed, carrying seven people, collided with a Fuso truck that had broken down and was parked at the roadside.

“The Toyota Succeed, registration number T625 DYV, was travelling from Tarime to Busurwa village when it crashed into the Fuso truck, registration number T857 BRX, which had been parked after a mechanical failure. Six passengers died instantly, while one succumbed to injuries shortly afterwards,” Commander Njera explained.

He added that the identities of the victims had not yet been established and that the bodies were being preserved at Utegi Hospital in Rorya. He further noted that police had launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.

Eyewitnesses, however, pointed to negligence by both drivers. They alleged that the Fuso truck driver failed to put up warning signs after stopping, while the Toyota Succeed driver was overspeeding and crossed into the wrong lane.

“This small car was moving very fast without caution. Worse still, the driver changed lanes at the last moment, and when he realised what was ahead, it was already too late. He rammed straight into the truck,” said Bernard Okos, a resident of Buganjo.

Residents appealed to drivers to strictly observe road safety regulations to avoid unnecessary loss of life.

Another witness, Godfrey Godfrey, said the victims were fish traders on their way to Busurwa fish landing site for their daily business.
