Tanzania's Sumatra told to review laws

Dar es Salaam. The Surface and Marine Transport Regulatory Authority (Sumatra) has been urged to make changes to regulations governing the registration of fishing vessels to ensure the country benefits from fisheries revenues.
Ms Anastazia Wambura (Special Seats-CCM), who chaired the parliamentary probe committee that investigated the sector, poked holes into the current regulations, which among things allowed fishing companies to engage in legal fishing for 15 years only.
“To ensure the government benefits fully from the sector, I urge Sumatra to review some of regulations and allow authorised fishing companies to continue fishing in our sea,” she said.
