Dodoma. The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (TEITI) is preparing to release its 15th annual report before June this year.

This upcoming report will offer detailed insights into the tax payments and revenues generated by mining, oil, and natural gas companies, reaffirming TEITI's ongoing commitment to transparency.

Since its inception, Tanzania has published 14 reports covering the period from July 1, 2008, to June 30, 2022, comparing payments made by extractive industries with revenues received by the government.

The 14th TEITI report, which follows international standards of transparency and accountability (EITI), revealed that the mining sector contributed 80.21 percent of the total government revenue from mineral, oil, and natural gas resources for the 2021/22 financial year.

On Thursday, February 20, 2025, during a seminar aimed at promoting the use of TEITI report statistics, TEITI Committee Chairperson, Mr Ludovick Utouh, announced that the 15th report covering the period from July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023, will be made available before June 2025.

The speech was delivered on his behalf by TEITI's acting manager of transparency and accountability, Mr Erick Ketagory.

"We are preparing the 15th report, which will cover the period of July 1, 2022, to June 30, 2023, and it will be available before June this year," read Mr Ketagory.

In a significant step towards inclusivity, Mr Ketagory explained that TEITI is preparing special Braille reports to ensure blind citizens can also access and understand data related to the mining, oil, and natural gas sectors.

"These resources belong to all citizens, so it's essential to ensure everyone can engage with the information," he said.

TEITI’s acting head of IT and Statistics, Mr Bakari Birika, read a speech on behalf of TEITI executive secretary, Ms Mariam Mgaya.

He emphasized that the workshop would provide participants with valuable insights into TEITI’s roles and how they can use the data compiled in the reports.

"Our responsibility is to create a system that allows citizens to access and utilize these statistics. This workshop is one step in empowering citizens to contribute meaningfully to these sectors,” said Mr Birika.

Looking ahead, Mr Birika also mentioned that TEITI plans to disclose contracts signed by the government with mining, oil, and gas companies and establish a registry of ownership for these companies.

The Tanzania Association of the Blind Chairperson in Dodoma Region, Mr Omari Lubuva, expressed gratitude for the training and the opportunity to access TEITI reports.

"People with disabilities, especially the blind, have often been left out of many opportunities. We are grateful to TEITI for recognizing the importance of providing us with the education and awareness we need to access these resources, just like any other Tanzanians," said Mr Lubuva.
