Tabora. Telecommunications firm Yas has been praised for its contribution to digital and financial inclusion following the launch of a modern service centre in Tabora, underscoring the role of the private sector in closing the digital gap in underserved areas.
The Uyui District Commissioner, Mr Mohamed Mtulyakwaku, who represented Tabora Regional Commissioner Paul Matiko Chacha at the inauguration, hailed the initiative as a catalyst for economic empowerment and improved livelihoods.
“The Tabora Regional Government commends Yas for bringing essential communication and financial services closer to the people. This store is more than just a customer service point, it symbolises new opportunities for our communities,” he said.
The new centre forms part of Yas’s national expansion strategy aimed at improving access to affordable and innovative telecommunications and digital financial services, particularly in regions with limited infrastructure.
Yas director of customer service and operations, Ms Mwangaza Matotola, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to inclusive digital growth.
“With this new Yas store in Tabora, we reaffirm our mission to take relevant technology to the people who need it most. We aim to empower youth, entrepreneurs, and all Tanzanians to participate meaningfully in the digital economy,” she said.
Central Zone director Mr Said Idd outlined services available at the store, including SIM registration, digital financial services via Mixx by Yas, sales of smart devices such as routers and Simujanja smartphones, and tailored support for small businesses through initiatives like the Mjasiriamali Box.
He added that the company’s rebranding from Tigo and Tigo Pesa to Yas and Mixx by Yas reflects a broader transformation towards innovation, customer empowerment and localised service delivery.
“Tabora has a vital role to play in Tanzania’s digital transformation. We are committed to supporting that by making our services more accessible where people live and work,” Mr Idd noted.
The event also featured the continuation of Yas’s national campaign, Anzia Ulipo—a call for Tanzanians to start their journey to success by utilising available resources wherever they are. The campaign aligns with Yas’s broader vision of building an inclusive and connected digital society.
