TotalEnergies announces winners of 2024 startupper of the year challenge

Dar es Salaam. TotalEnergies Tanzania has unveiled the winners of the 2024 Startupper of the Year Challenge, a competition designed to highlight innovative business ideas from young entrepreneurs across the nation.

The challenge, aimed at Tanzanian entrepreneurs aged 18 to 35, celebrated its winners during a press conference at the TotalEnergies office in Dar es Salaam.

This year’s Startupper of the Year Challenge, which was launched on April 30, attracted participants from 32 African countries, with 100 winners selected by both local and international panels.

The initiative is part of TotalEnergies’ centenary celebrations and aims to foster entrepreneurship and innovation in the region.

The local winners include Ms. Editha Godlisten awarded the Best Entrepreneur Award for her project, Freshpack Technologies. Ms. Adelaide Mwasyoghe represented who won the Best Circular Economy Project for her venture, Sustainable Avocable Oil.

Ms. Emman Mohamed was on the other hand honored with the Best Sustainable and Affordable Project award for her initiative, Non-Refillable Oxyvent, which provides essential oxygen supply solutions for healthcare facilities.

Each winner will receive Sh20 million in funding, enhanced media exposure through local outlets and TotalEnergies’ digital platforms, and personalized coaching from Westerwelle Foundation Tanzania to help advance their projects.

Mamadou Ngom, Managing Director of TotalEnergies Tanzania, expressed the company’s commitment to nurturing young entrepreneurs. “Supporting young talent is essential for our continent’s future. Through this program, we hope to strengthen the local economy, encourage entrepreneurial spirit, and promote projects that are socially and environmentally responsible,” he stated.

Ms. Emman Mohamed, whose project addresses critical oxygen supply needs in hospitals, shared her enthusiasm: “This award inspires me to keep developing my project, which provides much-needed resources for healthcare facilities.”

The competition saw over 1,000 applications, with 436 completed entries from Tanzania. It culminated in a final event where 15 outstanding finalists pitched their ideas to a panel of judges, showcasing the ambition and creativity of Tanzanian youth dedicated to solving pressing challenges.

TotalEnergies’ Startupper of the Year Challenge continues to empower young innovators, reinforcing the importance of entrepreneurship in driving social and economic development in Tanzania.
