The students were first brought to court on 1 September 2025, charged under sections 196 and 197 of the Penal Code with murder
Arusha. Twelve students from Qash Secondary School have appeared in Babati District Court facing charges of murdering their fellow student, Yohana Konki.
Before Resident Magistrate Victor Kimario, the accused include Yason Janes, also known as Bombo, Juma Ally, David Emmanuel, Mahumu Benjamin, Nicolous Apolinary, and Benedict Stephano. The others are Anord Leonard, Laurian Boniphace, Michael Daniel, Nehemia Jeremia, Adam Crispian, and Laurent Boniphace.
The students were first brought to court on 1 September 2025, charged under sections 196 and 197 of the Penal Code with murder.
Government lawyer Raphael Rwezahula told the court that Yason and the other 11 allegedly committed the crime on 16 August 2025 in Qash village, Babati District, Manyara Region, resulting in the death of Yohana.
Background
According to Manyara Regional Police Commander Ahmed Makarani, Yohana died after being beaten by his fellow students over allegations of stealing a school property, at dawn on 16 August 2025.
Commander Makarani said preliminary investigations indicated the killings were linked to a local traditional healer, who reportedly gave a divination reading. The police are still seeking the healer, who allegedly fled with his family following the incident.
It is alleged that one of the students had lost an item at school and went with another student to the traditional healer to determine the culprit. Yohana was accused of stealing the item, which ultimately led to his death.
The case continues as investigations proceed, with police urging anyone with information about the traditional healer to come forward
