Dar es Salaam. Amidst a remarkable surge in tourist arrivals to Tanzania since the debut of the ‘Tanzania: The Royal Tour’ documentary, the country is now poised to further increase its visitor numbers.
The government believes that the launch of another documentary, named ‘Amazing Tanzania,’ will serve as a catalyst to attract even more tourists, predominantly from China, to visit the East African nation.
“Building upon the success of the ‘Tanzania: The Royal Tour’ documentary, the government has produced another internationally acclaimed tourism promotional film titled ‘Amazing Tanzania,’” Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa informed Parliament on Wednesday.
He disclosed that the film features recordings by President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Zanzibar’s President Hussein Ali Mwinyi, along with renowned Chinese actor Jin Dong.
“The film aims to attract tourists, especially from the Chinese market, and is scheduled for launch in May 2024,” Mr Majaliwa unveiled in Parliament.
The number of international tourists visiting Tanzania surged by 22.2 percent to a record-breaking 1,841,750 during the year ending January 2024.
Consequently, tourism earnings rose to $3.41 billion during the same period, up from $2.6 billion in the year ending January 2023, which itself marked an increase from $1.4 billion in the year ending January 2022.
Analysts attribute part of this surge to the impact of the ‘Tanzania: The Royal Tour’ documentary, which gained popularity between August and September 2021.
The documentary was subsequently screened in various locations, including New York on April 18, 2022, Los Angeles on April 21, 2022, Arusha on April 28, 2022, Zanzibar on May 7, 2022, and Dar es Salaam on May 8, 2022.
Featuring President Hassan as a tour guide, the documentary showcases Tanzania’s iconic attractions, including Kilimanjaro National Park, Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Serengeti and Mkomazi nature reserves, Manyara and Arusha—key destinations on the northern tourist circuit—Indian Ocean beaches, and the rich cultural and historical heritage found in Bagamoyo and Zanzibar.
