YAS expands 5G reach with new tower commissioned in Kinyerezi

Dar es Salaam. Telecommunications firm YAS has unveiled a new 5G communication tower in the Kinyerezi – Zimbili area of Ilala District, marking a significant milestone in the expansion of next-generation network coverage across Tanzania.

The commissioning ceremony, held on April 28, was attended by government officials, community leaders, and local residents, underscoring growing public interest in digital infrastructure.

YAS Southern Zone Director for Dar es Salaam, Mr Robert Kasulwa, said the installation is part of the company’s broader effort to extend 5G services across underserved and high-potential areas. He noted that the project aligns with YAS’s 2022 pledge to drive widespread deployment of advanced communication technologies.

“To date, we have erected more than 300 5G towers within Dar es Salaam alone. This demonstrates our unwavering commitment to delivering fast, reliable, and high-quality communication services to all Tanzanians,” said Mr Kasulwa.

He pointed out that the new tower is expected to enhance efficiency in vital sectors such as small-scale trade, education, healthcare, and digital access, particularly benefiting local communities in Kinyerezi – Zimbili and its surroundings.

“5G is not just about faster internet speeds,” he said. “It is a platform for socio-economic transformation. It enables dependable, high-speed connectivity that supports innovation and broad-based development.”

The development supports the government’s national digital transformation agenda, which seeks to promote inclusive access to ICT services and empower citizens to actively participate in the country’s economic growth.

Mr Kasulwa also thanked the government for its continued cooperation in facilitating private sector investment in the ICT sector, saying YAS remains committed to partnering with authorities to build a digitally connected and inclusive Tanzania.

The company believes the Kinyerezi tower will stimulate local entrepreneurship, open up new employment avenues for youth, and support key industries through improved connectivity.
