Mbeya. Telecom provider Yas Tanzania has officially launched its national “Anzia Ulipo” (Start Where You Are) campaign in the Southern Zone, kicking off with a vibrant event in Mbeya aimed at encouraging Tanzanians to embrace digital technology as a tool for personal and economic transformation.
The campaign, which is part of Yas’s broader strategy to promote digital inclusion, seeks to empower individuals—especially in underserved and rural areas—to begin their digital journey from their current circumstances, using the tools and connectivity already at their disposal.
Officiating the launch on June 20, Mr. Abbas Abdurahamani, Yas’s Southern Zone Director, said the initiative reflects a commitment to inclusive progress powered by reliable, high-speed technology.
“Anzia Ulipo is more than a slogan—it’s a call to action,” he said. “It’s about equipping every Tanzanian, whether in the heart of Mbeya or remote villages, to start where they are, use what they have, and take the first step toward digital empowerment.”
Mr. Abdurahamani cited practical examples of how Yas’s 4G and 5G networks are transforming lives across sectors: enabling farmers to access real-time market data, teachers to expand learning beyond the classroom, and entrepreneurs to scale their businesses through online platforms.
“From Tukuyu to Uyole, digital tools are no longer a luxury—they are a lifeline. Our expanding network is creating new opportunities for growth and connection,” he said.
Yas’s Director of Marketing, Ms. Edwardina Mgendi, echoed the campaign’s relevance to youth and small business owners, calling it a timely intervention for a country rapidly embracing digital change.
“The power to change lives isn’t far away—it’s right here. Whether you’re in a city, village, or at a roadside stall, ‘Anzia Ulipo’ encourages everyone to begin where they are. Yas is a committed partner in that journey,” she said.
She added that Yas’s 4G coverage now reaches more than 95% of the country, and that the company is fast-tracking its 5G rollout, opening doors for innovation, entrepreneurship, and digital jobs.
The “Anzia Ulipo” campaign will continue across other regions of the country through a blend of community engagement, radio and digital outreach, tech literacy programmes, and targeted support for small and micro-entrepreneurs.
Mbeya was selected for the campaign launch due to its status as a regional hub of innovation and grassroots enterprise, with Yas officials affirming their intention to prioritise rural and underserved communities in future phases.
“We’re not just laying cables or building towers—we’re building futures,” said Mr. Abdurahamani. “Yas is committed to ensuring no Tanzanian is left behind in the digital economy.”
