Youth empowerment project receives Sh10bn

The project targets youth from five regions namely Dodoma, Manyara, Singida, Tabora and Shinyanga who will be trained in various skills which include Agriculture, Sanitation and renewable energy sectors.


Dodoma. The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) will sponsor a $4.7 million (Sh10.15 billion) project aiming at empowering the youth in central zone regions.

The project; dubbed opportunity for Youth Employment (OYE),  aims at imparting the youth with skills which will enable them to set up income generating projects.

The project targets youth from five regions namely Dodoma, Manyara, Singida, Tabora and Shinyanga who will be trained in various skills which include Agriculture, Sanitation and renewable energy sectors.

Speaking during the launching of the project Switzerland ambassador to Tanzania Ms Florence Tinguely Mattli said OYE is an innovative and unique model for youth employment.

According to her Switzerland is committed to empower youth in the country through skills.

“Fostering youth self-employment especially those living in rural areas will be key to achieve inclusive economic growth,” she said.
